Digging holes for trees!

At the end of April, John & I started digging holes around our property for new trees we wanted to plant. By May the weather was heating up here in New Mexico, we already had several days of 100 degrees. So we used our patio umbrella to give us some shade, worked quiet well! We got 13 holes dug in all.
We planted 6 Kiowa Giants around the shop, so we would have shade from the summer sun. 4 Weeping Willows and 3 Royal Empresses, as of today June 19, 2008 all 13 trees are doing well, and we are very pleased with our efforts.
We had to build some sturdy fences to protect our new trees from the rabbits, which stripped all of the roses, a couple of Cottonwoods, and the fig tree of their bark last winter. John cut all the roses and the fig down to the ground for me in April and they are coming back, since they have been here for over 18 years, I was pleased that the stripping of their bark did not kill the root balls.
The desert has been so dry since summer of 2007, that the Mesquite did not bloom this year until late May, we have not had any rain so far this year. Big Jack Rabbits are coming into the yard this year, they have never done that before. They are bigger than our new puppy! I'll try to get a picture of one. LOL!

I hope everyone has a Great day and I look forward to posting again tomorrow!
